Hello
from Jill

There’s something so cozy about the winter months. Winter Sundays are when I can take some time to finally dig into that stack of magazines and cookbooks I’ve been wanting to read, and to prepare delicious meals like soups, stews, casseroles, and other batch recipes. I love it when the the house is filled with the smell of great food.
One winter comfort dish I enjoy making is an Italian Chicken Pasta casserole . With our best-selling Pomodorina sauce and Rummo pasta, this cheesy and comforting chicken dish is part lasagna, part pizza, and entirely delicious. A crowd-pleaser for sure.

I make it in the All-Clad Lasagna Pan with Lid (a.k.a. the "All-Clad Baker") and the recipe above is optimized for it. This versatile pan has the same footprint as All-Clad's small roaster, but it’s lighter and has a handy plastic cover, making it perfect for potlucks. Regularly $174.99, it's on sale for $134.99.
For soups, stews and other larger batch meals one of my favourite vessels is All-Clad's Simply Strain 12 quart induction-friendly pot. The strainer insert makes pasta preparation incredibly easy. I also use it to make chicken stock, and in the summer corn fits easily in the strainer. The store recently received a shipment and it's at a great price of $244.99 (regularly $314.99).

It’s also the perfect pot for a batch of chili. Chili goes down great on a cold winter's day. Here's a great vegetarian chili recipe we developed. The secret is the Muir Glen fire-roasted tomatoes... they're delicious!

We are back in the kitchen at Jill’s Table with a sold-out season of winter cooking classes. We had a wonderful response to this season and we know many of you gifted classes to loved ones for Christmas. We’re enjoying seeing everyone in the kitchen for classes and are grateful for your ongoing support.
Also in the kitchen this winter, we're thrilled to have The Whole Grain Hearth with us again Saturday mornings through March. Be sure to pop in from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (or while quantities last) to pick up some of their fabulous sourdough bread, granola and a variety of pastries. They mill their own flours from scratch!

In other store news, each January/February my charitable foundation accepts grant applications. In 2012, I started the Jill Wilcox Foundation with a mission to grant funds to organizations that help women and children in food-related initiatives. All proceeds from my latest cookbook, Favourites, go directly to the foundation.

We would be delighted if you could help us spread the word that we're accepting grant proposals until the end of February. Details below.
Many people are embracing Dry January this year. We've heard some people are extending their commitment well into February as well. We can help! We are well-stocked with Sobrii non-alcoholic spirits, a locally-made favorite. Check out this recipe for a refreshing "Georgia Gin" cocktail made with Teisseire peach syrup. We also have a great selection of Seedlip no-alcohol spirits from England, and a nice selection of no-alcohol wines in store. Cheers!

Winter is also trade show season. My team is looking forward to industry shows in Toronto. We can’t wait to discover and bring in interesting and exciting new finds for you and to help make this store anniversary year even more special.

In the meantime, I hope you get a chance to savour winter's slower pace. If you can, consider spending time in the kitchen preparing favourite comfort dishes for family, friends and yourself.

See you in the store!
