Hello
from Jill

Can you dig it? We are at the peak of summer, and what a wonderful time of year it is.

I love the longer evenings… being able to sit in my back yard after a long day, listening to the birds and enjoying the garden.

Summer meals are more relaxed and casual. The array of local produce we have to choose from is incredible.

At Jill's Table, our King. St. display window display is currently decorated in celebration of summer veggies, and the vegetable theme extends throughout the store.
Every Saturday you'll find me at the outdoor farmers' market across the street at Covent Garden Market, checking out what additions there are to their stands. I fill several market baskets full of produce to to use in our store classes and at home.

I recently picked up a bunch of freshly harvested carrots. Not only did I enjoy the carrots, I made an easy carrot top pesto which is always delicious.

I also recently bought beets, and sautéed the beet tops in a bit of olive oil with our Tuscan seasoning. This a great side dish, and I love it when nothing is wasted.

Essential Tools

We are at the ready to help you with the tools you need to make the most of the current plethora of summer vegetable goodness.
A salad spinner is an absolute must have in my kitchen. (When I travel abroad, it's the first thing I look for in the kitchen.) We are impressed with the new feature on the Zyliss spinner that allows you to drain the water from the spinner easily.

I spin not just my salad greens, but also herbs. Homemade dressings will cling to a spun-dry green much better.

Speaking of which, homemade dressings are a breeze in OXO salad dressing shakers. (In green, appropriately, and also available in black.)

A great vegetable peeler is another must. I've been using the OXO brand swivel style peeler for more than 25 years. It’s my go-to. We also have the Y-version, as well as a wider design for those who want to quickly hand shred some cabbage, for example.
For serious slicing, we always recommend the German-made Börner V-slicer mandoline. I’ll never forget when this company launched it at a North American trade show more than 20 years ago. I stood and watched the demo for what seemed like hours. I was so impressed. One of the unique features of this mandoline is its extremely safe hand guard.

What else do we have for your veggie prep? Handy vegetable brushes, vegetable steamers and more.

Ingredients

Jill's Table really shines when it comes to salad dressing ingredients. We work hard to maintain an incredible array of olive oils, vinegars, mustards and salts for you to enjoy. Using quality ingredients in your dressings is the easiest way to elevate summer salads to spectacular standards.

We're particularly thrilled this summer to have our Badia Cava Rosé vinegar from Spain back in stock after an almost four-year absence. Also just into the store is a lovely Greek oil in a bulk 3 litre format; we hope to have it up on the e-store later today.

When you visit, please ask our team about oils and vinegars. We always have many bottles open in the kitchen, so pop back and ask for a sample.
Vegetables are always a popular motif in linens and tableware as well. Check out Ulster Weavers' charming vegetable medley pattern available on tea towels, oven mitts, and more.

Whatever your veggie passion is, we probably have it on our shelves.

Recipes

We’ve compiled a couple of comforting, easy summer recipes featuring a chili made with Ferguson Brothers red kidney beans.

Our Chili Dogs recipe will be a sure-fire hit with the kids, and the same chili goes into this satisfying Cheezy Chili Pasta.

For the really steamy summer days, sushi helps beat the heat. We've developed a great Poke Bowl recipe, featuring our fabulous sushi-grade tuna.
To keep you cool on the beverage side of things, be sure to check out our selection of French-made Teisseire syrups. These fabulous syrups are delicious added to sparkling water, still water and all kinds of cocktails. We recently sampled the strawberry syrup in store with some sparkling water and a frozen local strawberry. Easy but incredible. I’m looking forward to enjoying the peach version with slices of frozen peaches in my glass. The possibilities are endless with this wonderful line.

The long and short of it — we really do “dig” vegetables and summer!
Hope you are enjoying your summer! As always, we look forward to seeing you in the store sometime soon.
