Kick Back, Stay Cool

HELLO FROM JILL

I like late July because it means summer is finally in full swing. At Jill’s Table, we wrap up cooking classes for the season around now and we can all take a bit of a breather before things ramp up again.

I hope everyone is able to find a chance to kick back, take a break and take time to enjoy family and friends over casual meals. Personally, I love nothing more than inviting friends over to have a few appetizers or a simple dinner on the deck.

We’ve already had some very steamy weather this summer and with that in mind, we’ve prepared some great tips and recipes to help you stay cool.
My go-to summer “soup” is gazpacho. This healthy Spanish elixir is just a breeze to prepare in a blender. I keep pitchers of it on hand for when we need a quick but healthy pick-me-up. It's a fabulous starter for a summer dinner party. Consider serving it in a wonderful La Rochère bee glass bowl or if you want to really make it casual, serve it in a Duralex tumbler.

What would summer be without potato salad? We love it when customers share some of their recipe inspirations with us; not long ago, Eva came in and let us know she put a package of Spanish grilled artichokes into newly boiled potatoes, and added some olives for a warm potato salad. How delicious. Thank you Eva for sharing! We also added some capers and white wine vinegar to this unusual take on summer potato salad, and are sharing the recipe with you today. Enjoy!

Cold pasta salads are another mainstay of summer. We paired the delicious Wafu dressing from Umami with Rummo spaghettini and a host of crunchy local vegetables for a wonderful salad. To make it a main course, add a can of oil-packed Callipo tuna. We’ll bet you’ll want to make this recipe again and again this summer.

In addition to oil packed Callipo tuna, which we always like to have on hand, our team has pulled together a selection other “must have” summer pantry staples. Check it out here or below.
Back to keeping cool... we are delighted with the response to the Asobu drink bottles we're carrying. These whimsical bottles are evidently not only for kids; we are thrilled with the number of adult customers buying them for themselves. What fun! They're not only delightfully cute and charming, they're well made and keep liquids hot or cold for 24 hours.

Also, Asobu's pet Buddy Bottle bottle is brilliant. It’s an insulated 3-in-1 bottle for you and your dog, with detachable nested food and water bowls.
We are also well stocked with acrylic ware for your patio and some fabulous melamine pieces that really do look like porcelain.

We hope you’re having a lovely summer so far, finding time to kick back and make memories. As usual, we look forward to seeing you in the store and we are at the ready to help you with your summer entertaining and cooking needs.
