Happy Canada
Day!

Canada Day is next Wednesday and I can’t wait to have the day to celebrate. And we have so much to celebrate!
Sourcing great Canadian products to stock the shelves at Jill's Table is an ongoing and daunting task, but a satisfying and rewarding one.

Canada Day is a great time to take a mental journey across the country and showcase some of our fabulous domestic products, new and long-standing, that we're proud to share with you.

Let’s start on the east coast: did you know that Jill's Table carries 84% butterfat butter from COWS Creamery in Prince Edward Island? COWS butter (4% higher than grocery store butter) is made with a slower, traditional churn that gives a silkier, creamier taste.
Also from out east is Martin Picard’s decadent Au pied du cochon maple condensed milk and maple dulce de leche. If you haven't tried our super-simple no-churn ice cream recipe that uses the maple condensed milk... please do give it a try.

Quebec is a rich source of wonderful products, too, including cheeses, smoked salmon, maple syrup and more. Montreal's Joe Beef continues to be one of our best-selling line of rubs, and Joe Beef Ketchup is among the very best on the market. Speaking of ketchup... drop in this Saturday for our ketchup contest where we will be sampling Joe Beef and Wild Canadian Food Company's dill pickle ketchup. Visit and vote for your favourite!
Among our many Ontario producers, we’re proud to carry Weekend at the Cottage products. Their delicious BBQ sauce is featured in our newly-developed and delicious pulled pork recipe.

Products from The Garlic Box have been on our shelves for 25 years; their Caesar Dressing & Dip is an essential summer staple you should keep in stock in your pantry.

Moss Berry Farms' jams are another long-time favourite, as are Kozlick’s mustards. Great Ontario makers fill our fridge and freezer, too: Daily Dumpling Wonton Co. from Toronto, Woodstock artisan cheesemaker Gunn's Hill, Mountainoak cheese from New Hamburg, Niagara's Paz Bakery, and Tillsonburg's Good Pud.
And now for the local products! New and just in time for Canada Day are these terrific maple leaf motif microwave bowl cozies, made right here in London by a non-profit. These bowl and plate cozies help protect your fingers when you take something hot from the microwave. They're a really popular item and we have several designs to choose from in-store.

Other local favourites are hot sauces & chili crisp from Proper Heathen, and Bella's Toffee by Haven's Creamery. It's great to see how these local products fly off the shelves when we have them in stock.

Pitstopping in the prairies, we are carrying some organic Chandler creamed honey that comes from Tique Chandler's family farm in Scandia, Alberta.
Moving all the way out west to Vancouver Island, we love SaltSpring Kitchen preserves. We also carry some fantastic west coast delicacies like Northern Divine sturgeon caviar, and West Coast Select salmon paté.

Among Jill's Table team members are several people who have chosen to make Canada their home. We asked them about the first food they remember from when they arrived in Canada:
  • For Ran, our culinary co-ordinator and chef at Jill’s Table, it was Kraft Dinner! Ran made Canada her home in 2002, coming from Bejing.
  • Paulina came to London from Mexico City 6 years ago, and enjoyed a meal at Tim Horton’s as one of her first North American food experiences.
  • Machiko came to Canada in 2014 from Japan and remembers enjoying ribs and chicken wings.
  • For Susie, it was hotdogs and hamburgers that intrigued her most when she and her family came to Canada in 1974 from Korea.
Wishing everyone a very happy Canada Day!
