HELLO FROM JILL

We’re almost on the other side of winter! Spring will appear before we know it, and Easter plans will begin to take shape. Isn’t it a lovely thought?
We’ve been preparing the store and can’t wait to help you with this most-welcome transition into the new season. We’re busy restocking our shelves and have been visiting Toronto gift shows and are happy to report that we have some great new products to share with you.

The shelves are full once again with new Michel Design Works linens and ever-popular foaming soaps. They each feature beautiful floral patterns, adding welcome colour to our shop and will do the same for your home. A particular favourite is Michel Design Works' Hydrangea pattern, which we can't seem to get enough of. It's featured in our King St. spring window display.
For your spring table, we continue to grow the Casa Fina tableware line from Portugal. It has an understated matte finish and clean, modern styling. We particularly like the seed grey and salt colours, and have plenty on hand. CasaFina includes some very affordable baking dishes in the line, too.
We’re also enthused about this set of four coloured glasses from Duralex. These sturdy, made-in-France tumblers are perfect for all your casual entertaining needs and offer great value at only $20.99.

Since we are talking Easter, we thought it an opportune time to share some recipes featuring the versatile egg.

A great solution for Easter weekend, or any long-weekend brunch for that matter, is our new leek and mushroom quiche recipe.
If you don't already have a tarte pan, we have a limited number of de Buyer Homebaking boxes that would be perfect in which to prepare this delicious quiche recipe. The set features a stainless 9.5 inch tarte ring and a blue steel round tray (which could be used for baking a pizza, too). A cooling rack and a stainless/wood server are also included. Regularly $125.00, it's on sale for $64.99 (currently in-store only).

Another Easter-Egg recipe is Chef Ran's new recipe for a luscious lemon pavlova. It would make a delightful Easter dessert.
Among our favourite food finds from this spring's road trips and research is a new line of spreads from Saltspring Kitchen Company. Founder Melanie Mulherin began selling her delicious sweet and savory spreads at the Salt Spring Island Farmer’s market in 2012. These really are the perfect condiment to add to any charcuterie board.
We are also excited about the new line of sauces from Umami in Montreal. Their Japanese-inspired sauces include Ponzu, Gyoza, Wafu and Teriyaki. The Gyoza is fabulous with our Daily Dumpling wontons (as featured in our February newsletter).

Our Spring/Summer (yes, summer!) cooking classes will be launched at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20th. Mark your calendars! We are once again excited to offer so many great classes in both demonstration and hands-on formats. And yes, we recognize the demand for daytime classes and are happily continuing to offer them.

For me, one of the best parts of spring is welcoming back the outdoor Covent Garden Farmer’s Market. They will be back in the square on Easter weekend, March 30. I can’t wait!

With spring around the corner, that means wedding and shower season is too. It brings us great joy to be able to participate in momentous celebrations by offering gift registry services. Give us a call or e-mail us to set up an appointment. (Not everyone recognizes we we are terrific registry option. Your referrals are greatly appreciated!)

As always, we are looking forward to seeing you in the store. Here’s to spring, to sunshine, and to everything wonderful the new season holds.

— Jill
