Hello
from Jill

What a start to the year it’s been! February is underway and I’m embracing it with open arms and an open heart. After all, February is a time to celebrate love. As Dionne Warwick sang so beautifully, it's what the world needs now...not just for some, but for everyone!

With Valentine's Day next Friday, February 14th, and Family Day shortly after on Monday the 17th, February has lots and lots of love to celebrate.

Have you ever noticed red is the year-round colour at Jill’s Table? It’s always our top pick for housewares, and we especially love it around Valentine’s Day. We've picked a lovely selection of recommendations that will make great gifts for your loved ones this year. Check out the small collection here.
For some reason I’ve always gravitated toward red, especially when collaborating with Emile Henry on our store exclusives, past and present. (They call their particular red "grand cru".) Our current limited edition grand cru Emile Henry exclusive is our Jill's Table 25th anniversary signature red loaf pan. There are still some available, and we're hosting some dedicated “loaf pan” classes; they've been a big hit so far and more are coming your way this spring.

Speaking of classes, mark your calendars! The next season of cooking classes kicks off on March 18. Stay tuned to be among the first to know when tickets will be available.
Now for the recipes. Today we're sharing three new love-inspired recipes, starting with a simple but delicious appetizer. One of our most popular items this year is Sweety Pepper Drops from Peru; these sweet and tangy little pickled peppers are perfect for tossing into salads, sprinkling over a freshly baked pizza, or adding a vibrant touch to a charcuterie board. We use them in this appetizer recipe that features our much-loved Italian taralli, some whipped French cheese from Madame Loik and a pinch of fresh chives. They are a breeze to prep, can be made a few hours ahead, and keep nicely in the fridge.
Next up is a recipe for a romantic main course for two, comprised of a delicious fig & port sauce using Dalmatia fig spread served over our ever-popular boneless Magret duck breasts (that you can always find in our store freezer). Serve it with a nice bottle of wine, and to help make the occasion special, break out the best glassware you can. Need an example? Check out these gorgeous Riedel "Heart to Heart" glasses, and the rest of our beautiful Riedel glassware.
While not technically a recipe, here's a tip for the sweetest (and easiest!) ending to your Valentine’s Day dinner. Indulge in the decadent delight of GoodPud chocolate puddings—rich, velvety, and effortlessly elegant. Available in Belgian Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel & Belgian Dark Chocolate, the only thing you need to do is crown them with a fabulous Italian Amarena cherry and you’re all set.
The third and last recipe is a special one for Family Day. I hope many of you will be able share a special meal with loved ones over Family Day weekend this year. In the spirit of love and tradition, I’m sharing a cherished recipe that was given to me many years ago from my sister-in-law Susan. It's for spaghetti pie, a dish our kids adored when they were young. It’s simple to put together, comforting, looks great in a red Emile Henry pie plate, and tastes just so darned good.

Before I sign off, I want to briefly acknowledge the many visitors to the store so far this week who have been enthusiastically seeking Canadian-made products. The progress Jill's Table has made over the years cultivating great relationships with so many Canadian suppliers is particularly gratifying at times like this. While we might face some challenges with a few American product lines in the near future, a great number of the products on our shelves are either made in Canada or come from France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, India and more. We are very well-equipped to help you find exciting alternatives to your usual brands.

Now more than ever, I look forward to seeking out and bringing you fabulous new flavours and beautiful housewares from local, regional, and national suppliers that you can feel great about supporting.
P.S. We've started building a growing made-in-Canada collection on the e-store for you to peruse. Check back as we continue to add more.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful February filled with deliciousness and love!
–Jill
