If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the holiday season over the years it’s that for those who celebrate Christmas, the true star of the show is the stocking. Stockings are just so much fun!
Often filled with predictable childhood favourites, the stocking is a Christmas comfort so many of us love.
|
While I fill stockings for my family with the usual socks, licorice, favourite body wash and of course an orange, I’ll also try to treat them to some new and interesting gifts that I hope they will enjoy over the holidays… if those consumable items even make it home!
On the gadget side of things, we have several families with a tradition of coming in year after year to ask us if we have a gadget or kitchen curiosity that can stump the recipient. I love coming up with something new every year and I hope you’ll drop by the store to see what it is!
You’ll also discover our back stocking stuffer table, which is full of practical kitchen gadgets and wonderful food—all perfect for stockings and are sure to bring joy to recipients.
This year I polled our team on their favourite Christmas picks, and we’ve put together a curated collection for you; images below. Great both as stocking stuffers and for holiday gifts of every kind (and perhaps a treat for you too).
Of particular note on the food side of things (and a top pick among our team) is Martin Picard of Au Pid du Couchon fame in Montreal. He has created a Maple Condensed Milk produced in PEI, and we've been using it in an astoundingly simple yet spectacular “no churn” ice cream recipe we learned about from our colleague Lorraine, who was making it with regular sweetened condensed milk. We tried it in the store kitchen using Picard’s Maple Condensed Milk and WOW—it is a huge hit. This will be your easiest and most delicious go-to dessert this season.
Artisanal canned seafood has been on the rise for a while. It’s quickly becoming a featured staple on every charcuterie board and we're now carrying some delicious new Italian sardines (in utterly charming retro tins, by the way). Great sardines are also a fabulous pantry ingredient, and I'm sharing a super-easy sardine pasta recipe It's elegantly simple, but delicious.

Did you know we do gift baskets? Chef Ran, our talented culinary coordinator, shifts gears in November and December to lead our holiday gift basket business. Check out what we have to offer. You are also welcome to drop into the store and select items that we can put in a gift bag with a festive gift tag.
To help with your holiday gift giving, we have our online e-store—a 24/7 way to shop at Jill’s Table. While much of what we offer is available online, there are a few items you’ll only find in store, so we do hope you’ll drop in. And remember, you can always call us and we’ll be happy to help you over the phone. It’s old fashioned… but it works!

Finally, I want to let you know that I continue to be on the organizing committee for the Business Cares Food Drive. It’s been a privilege to be part of this amazing team that has raised much needed food and monies for the Food bank. This initiative also supports many of the organizations that the Food Bank supports. The need has, unfortunately, increased an astounding 43 percent over last year.
