May is quickly approaching and it’s a special month. Spring will be in full swing and we have Mother’s Day to look forward to.
Perhaps you’ll be celebrating your mom, or a new mom, or someone meaningful in your life who is like a mom to you. The construct of motherhood is certainly far-ranging and evolving, but there is that one constant when we think of this figure in our lives - a feeling of being nurtured and comforted. As I enter into this rich chapter of my life, I treasure my role as a mom, step-mom, grandmother… and of course “mom” to my dear pets!
It’s not just mom who nurtures and comforts. It’s food, too! This newsletter combines both: great recipes and perfect gift ideas to celebrate the special mom figure in your life.

First up, we've paired some of our beautiful linens with the Swedish-made eco-friendly Hinza bags—together they make a lovely and practical gift. The bags are a recycled product and are ideal for shopping outings to your favourite farmer’s market or to the beach in warmer weather.
(Speaking of farmers' markets… we are so glad to have the Covent Garden Outdoor Farmers' Market back! 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, on the Rotary square right across the street from Jill's Table.)

Another special we are excited about for Mother’s Day is All-Clad’s new 3 quart “universal” pan, It features double handles and a lid. You can start your meal on the stove, finish in the oven and then bring the pan to the table. A busy mom making weeknight dinners would love this piece (and the fewer dishes after too).
And now... recipes! We've made some delicious Mother's Day inspired recipes highlighting some exciting new additions to the store. Scroll down to check out our delicious artichoke risotto recipe, plated on Casa Fina Pacifica dinnerware from Portugal; it looks and tastes fabulous. Casa Fina is a lovely store addition we discovered at our team visit to the Toronto gift show earlier in the year.
We are also happy to introduce exquisite Adar smoked salmon from Quebec. Our team member Machiko shares her simple and delicious appetizer, below, which would make a fantastic addition to a Mother’s Day brunch or an upcoming warm weather gathering. It’s topped with a tasty (and very affordable!) Spanish caviar.
On the local front, we have partnered with Pepper Tree Spice Co. in Port Stanley, bringing some of their spices and blends to our shelves. Chef Ran created (and shares below) her delicious lavender shortbread cookie using their culinary lavender.

Many have asked over the years for a special Vitamix demonstration and so we are pleased to provide
rotating demonstrations this coming weekend, on Saturday April 29 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. This is perfect timing since many of the machines are $50 to $60 off, just in time for Mother’s Day.
